At the April 6th Council Meeting, Mayor Simoneau proclaimed April 30th, 2021, as Arbor Day in Baldwin City. Roger Boyd of Baldwin City's Tree Board was on hand to accept the proclamation. Roger said the Tree Board will celebrate Arbor Day with 5th grade by planting a tree with each class on April 30th. He also announced the tree board will be giving away trees on May 8th, from 8am-11am, in Sullivan Square. There will be 14 or 15 species available to choose from.
Baldwin City's Municipal Code provides for the establishment of a City Tree Board, which consists of five members appointed by the mayor. Their duties include development and updating of an annual comprehensive city tree plan for trees and shrubs in parks, along streets, and in other public areas.
