Phase I Map
Overview of entire project

The first phase of the Maple Leaf Trail will be breaking ground April 4, 2023, connecting the existing multi-use trail on Elm Street to the Santa Fe Depot at High Street.

Phase II Project Area

Phase 2 is funded by a grant from Kansas Department of Transportation, with an 80/20 local match. It will extend from the Depot south to the City limits. See Project Documents on the right hand side of this webpage for more detailed maps and financial summary. No start date for construction is yet in place.

Phase III to Connect to Ottawa

As of March 2024, the City has applied for a RAISE grant from the Federal Government to procure funding worth around $20 million dollars to extend the trail to connect with the Prairie Spirit Trailhead in Ottawa. Alternative grant options are also being considered. The money would build around twelve miles of trail along the Midland Railway right of way the City purchased from Midland in 2018.
